Secondary School in France
Secondary in France is divided into two cycles: collège (from 6th to 9th grade) and lycée (from 10th to 12th grade). It is a key stage in students’ academic journey, preparing them for higher education and professional life.
Collège (Ages 11 to 15)
Collège marks the beginning of secondary education and consists of four levels: 6ème, 5ème, 4ème, and 3ème. It aims to consolidate the knowledge acquired in elementary school and deepen learning within a more structured framework.
Subjects taught include:
- French, mathematics, history-geography, and civic education
- Science and technology (biology-geology, physics-chemistry, technology, computer science)
- Modern and classical languages
- Arts and physical education
At the end of 3ème, students take the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB), which certifies their skills and knowledge before moving on to lycée.
Lycée (Ages 15 to 18)
Lycée prepares students for the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI), which grants access to higher education institutions around the world. It consists of three levels: Seconde (10th grade), Première (11th grade), and Terminale (12th grade).
- Seconde is an orientation year that allows students to explore various subjects before choosing a specialization.
- Première and Terminale combine a common core curriculum with specialty courses chosen by the student according to their interests and future goals.
At the Lycée International Français de Taipei, secondary students follow the French National Education curriculum in a multicultural and demanding environment, providing them with high-level preparation for continuing their studies in France or internationally.
