At the Lycée International Français de Taipei, we love to explore innovative teaching methods that encourage collaboration among students. One of these methods, the Jigsaw Classroom, is a collaborative learning approach that turns students into true agents of their learning.
The concept is simple: each student becomes an expert on one part of a topic. After working in an “expert group,” they join a new group made up of members who studied different parts of the same theme. Together, they assemble the “puzzle” by sharing their knowledge to build a full understanding of the subject.
This method builds many skills: autonomy, active listening, oral expression, as well as a sense of responsibility and teamwork. It values each student, since every one of them holds a key piece of the collective understanding.
The jigsaw classroom is especially effective for tackling complex topics in an engaging, interactive, and meaningful way. It’s also a great way to strengthen team spirit within the class!
