35 Years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

On November 20, we celebrated a highly significant anniversary: the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989. This historic event marks a crucial step in the universal recognition of the fundamental rights of every child.

The CRC, ratified by nearly every country in the world, enshrines the idea that children, as full-fledged human beings, must enjoy specific rights to ensure their well-being, education, and development. It is founded on four key principles: non-discrimination, the best interests of the child, the right to survival and development, and respect for the child’s views.

In practical terms, the convention guarantees children the right to attend school, be protected from all forms of violence or exploitation, access healthcare, and live in a loving family environment. It also recognizes their right to freedom of expression and participation while protecting them from conflicts and injustices.

At LIFT, we are committed to promoting these values within our educational community.

Through our teachings, activities, and discussions, we aim to raise awareness among students about their rights and responsibilities, encouraging them to become compassionate and respectful citizens.

This anniversary is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that remain in the world and how each of us can contribute to building a better future for all children.
